Work with Special Case Designs (2.0 Only)

Watch Demo

Contribute can be used to update the existing content of a designer home or other page, but cannot be used effectively to change the layout to any significant degree.

  1. View and Edit the designer page you want to update; two are provided in the practice sites -- look for the links to "3-column Stationery" and "1-column Stationery"
  2. Change existing labels, blocks of text, and links by carefully selecting them, then typing or pasting in your replacement text.
  3. Add new paragraphs by carefully placing your cursor at the end of the paragraph that will precede your new one (there should be no spacing between the source paragraph and where you want it).
  4. Cursor placement / element selection is crucial
  5. Use caution when pasting content from one area to another or one page to another; text effects often are copied with the source text and may behave unexpectedly when pasted within another container. It may be helpful to paste and re-copy your text in a non-HTML text editor such as Notepad (Win) or TextEdit (Mac)

Maximum widths

Elements within special case design pages must also be controlled for width, or you risk pushing out your margins (see images). Here are the maximum widths for the entire main editable area (all components must add to the following numbers, in pixels, or the margins may push out):

Maximum widths within the pages' content containers will vary by example. Check your pages in the browser, looking at the margins closely, and adjust images and/or tables, and/or unbroken text so that all elements fit and margins are tight.
