The Stanford Medicine Format and Contribute
Before You Begin...
The standard for appearance and function of most medical sites is known as the Stanford Medicine format. If your site is in a different format, hosted elsewhere, or you want to request a new site, please contact the Web Help desk via http://webhelp.stanford.edu/.
What's New?
Our Web pages have changed appearance, both in the browser and in Contribute. Most activities and procedures are the same as before. The most important changes affect how to Add Links to Left Navigation, how to Edit Breadcrumbs Links Files, and we've added a few new Text Styles.
What to expect from this tutorial
With this training, you will learn how to publish Web pages in official Stanford Medicine format using Contribute 3 or newer, including the basics of Contribute.
About the Multimedia
This training has been updated so the content is appropriate for the latest version, however you may encounter demos showing older formats; in these cases, the difference in appearance is not significant to the process demonstrated.
Contribute is not for everyone
Contribute makes it easy to use to manage existing Web pages and to create new pages from existing ones, within an existing site structure. It is ideal for routine, low-level site maintenance.
Contribute is good for
- Changing text on existing Web pages
- Cloning existing pages to create new ones
- Editing existing sets of breadcbrumbs and left navigation links
Contribute is not good for
- Creating new sub-directories and site structure
- Changing which set of breadcrumbs or left navigation links is attached to a page
- Editing JavaScript objects, such as encrypted email links
Publishers anticipating highly active site development may want to consider using Dreamweaver instead. Extensive training is available for Stanford Medicine and Dreamweaver.
To complete this training, you need:
- A copy of Contribute 3 or newer installed on your computer. See More Information & Resources for details.
- An Stanford Medicine Format site to work on.
- If you want access to an existing live site as an official Web Author, please use the Web Help form to request access to an existing Stanford Medicine site, provide the live site URL, and select the checkbox for Contribute in the form.
- You can also request access to a practice site, a non-public site just for training.
