How to Work With Moveable Type
MoveableType service is now only in maintenance mode. All new blogs run on WordPress.
The Moveable Type interface is fairly easy to learn. If you're not sure how to do something, consult first with the MT Help page or the blog's primary author. If you encounter any errors, please submit a help request with or via your primary author, using the WebHelp form; provide your blog URL, the problem you are experiencing, and the error code, if any.
Tips for Using Moveable Type
- Log in with your SUNet ID and the password provided by Web Help. Please do not share your MedBlog account login and password with anyone but IRT staff.
- If you forgot your password, use the "Forgot your password?" link to re-set it
- On first login, be sure to edit your profile to re-set from the password issued by IRT, and to verify your email address for password re-sets
- Create new entries to express yourself
- Create and edit categories to gather your ideas together
- Associate entries with appropriate categories as you create them
- Only categories with published entries will be linked
- Decide when publishing whether you want to gather comments and trackbacks by turning comments and trackbacks on or off in the entry panel
- Comments and trackbacks must be reviewed and approved before they will show
- Click "View Entry" after saving an entry to see your results
- Published entries dated today or older, and comments on approval, are available immediately on the public blog site
Student and Other Personal Blogs
- If your blog includes a placeholder shield image (right), above your main links, you can replace it with your own image:
- create an image 150px X 150px, named "aboutme.jpg"
- use the Upload File command in MedBlog
- be sure to use the "<Local Site Path>/" selector
- when prompted about overwriting the existing image, click "Yes." You can ignore and close the final window about creating an entry and HTML.
- You need to have at least one entry in the "About Me" category. The entry headline does not have to be "About Me," although this is acceptable.
For Web Authors
If you also handle publication of an associated static Stanford Medicine site, you will find a directory for the blog's files within the directory for your main site's files when you view it through Dreamweaver. The directory name will usually be reflected in the blog's URL.
We suggest you avoid uploading files from this directory to the server, as they should be managed through MedBlog. If you get all the site files from the server, delete the blog folder from your local folder for the site. You can then synchronize individual files, ranges of files and/or directories by selecting them on the Local side, without downloading or interfering with the blog directory.
Access for Additional Authors
Requests for access by new authors should be coordinated with the blog's primary author, if at all possible. To request access to a blog, use the WebHelp form.
