New Web Authors
Thank You for Your Service to Stanford Medicine

Stanford Medicine Web Authors are critically important to the success of all of our endeavors. Keeping our Web sites fresh, accurate, professional and compelling raises the profile of every organization, and the pride and spirit of the people who work in it.

As a Web Author, you will develop skills that are portable and career-enhancing. And creating great looking Web pages and sites is a lot easier than you might think. Let's get started....

New Sites

You can't be a Stanford Medicine Web Author until there's a site. IRT hosts and builds sites for Stanford Medicine entities, and helps users who want to develop their own sites. Sites hosted elsewhere brought into Stanford Medicine hosting are treated as new sites.

Choose Software and a Maintenance Model

To operate a Stanford Medicine site, you must use either Dreamweaver or Contribute, both from Adobe, as your software for editing. When multiple people edit Web sites, it's a good idea to organize.

Site Access: How to Take Over Publication

You must have a SUNet ID to be a Stanford Medicine Web Author, and a sponsored ID works fine. You need to know and agree to our policies. View the site in a browser, and copy the full URL from the address bar. You will need this information when you request access.

How Do I...?

Whether or not you already know Dreamweaver or Contribute, you will need a little training to work with the Stanford Medicine format. IRT provides live, in-person and online training for both. We also have an extensive list of answers to the most frequently asked questions of Web Authors.

Make it Better

There's always room for improvement. Our guide will help you develop and enhance your content. There are so many possibilities for features, devices, technologies and layouts, that we created a Model Site to help you explore them.
