Requirements for hosting on med.stanford.edu

IRT is happy to host School of Medicine departments, divisions, centers, labs, programs, and other School of Medicine related entities on med.stanford.edu. The following guidelines are provided to delineate the standards and requirements for inclusion of web sites and materials on the School of Medicine web. These guidelines are provided to ensure the highest level of quality, accessibility, attractiveness, accuracy, and timeliness of web resources from Stanford University School of Medicine. IRT, in partnership with the School of Medicine Web Advisory Committee, reserves the right to impose additional standards as appropriate. Please direct any questions about these guidelines to Web Help.

  • All departments or persons maintaining sites on med.stanford.edu must read and agree to Stanford University's Terms of Use for Sites document.
  • As a user of a University server, you are expected to adhere to Stanford's Computer Usage Policies (PDF). The policies contain information on use for advertising, political use, for-profit ventures and many other topics.
  • All sites must be in accordance with all criminal, civil, and copyright laws.
  • All sites must be reviewed by IRT prior to launch. It is the sole discretion of IRT and the Web Advisory Committee what content can and cannot be hosted.
  • Each site must have an assigned person for maintenance and updating the content of that site. IRT should be notified who this person is and when a change occurs.
  • Contact information must be prominently displayed on each site. At least one contact email address is required and (ideally) phone numbers and mailing addresses should be included.
  • Hosting of Web applications -- back-end, server-driven processes such as CGI, PERL, ASP, JSP, PHP, Java, etc. -- is not permitted on IRT's server, the primary Web server for the School of Medicine, although IRT provides many such applications and processes. If you need hosting for a web application, please submit a web-help request and indicate the type of application and we will be happy to talk through issues and options with you.
  • All sites must be reviewed, and updated as necessary, at least every three months to prevent outdated and inaccurate information. Neglected or out-of-date sites may be removed from the server.
  • Sites should follow accessibility guidelines, as laid out by the World Wide Web Consortium.
  • Sites need to be in an approved format befitting the School of Medicine reputation and image. It is highly recommended that sites be set up by IRT using the official SoM Web format. Please contact Web Help to request assistance setting up a SoM Web site. If you chose to use a different style, it must be approved by IRT.
  • All sites must be affiliated with the Stanford University School of Medicine and serve an official purpose.
