Site Development

School of Medicine Web policies

In 2005, the School of Medicine executive committee set in motion a project to create standards across all department, division, center, and institute web sites. To support this goal, IRT provides free development services and maintains guides, policies, and templates.

Whether you want to build an entirely new site or integrate an existing site into the standard SoM format, we can provide your group with a useful Web presence that is easy to maintain and offers the functionality that you seek. Our core services are free of charge.

  1. Answer a Few Questions: To start a project plan for your site, please fill out a Web Help Request. Select "I would like to request a service, site feature or new site development," then "Redesign of an existing SoM Web site," fill in the form and submit.
  2. Consultation: Every project begins with a discussion. We'll work with you to define your site goals and functionality as well as your role in the development process. We’ll also review any custom features that you may want to add to your site.
  3. Content development: We can work with nearly any kind of content - text, images, video, and audio. It is important that content be organized and created before the technical production of your site begins. Typically content is delivered to our developers as simple word documents with minimal layout. If you don't have the staffing to develop your content in-house, we can connect you with a reputable, outside contractor. More more
  4. Site Development: Site development takes place in a non-public space in the SoM Web environment called protomed. Throughout the development process, we'll work closely with you to ensure your satisfaction with the final product. More more
  5. Site Launch: Once your site receives final approval, we will make it available to the public and provide you with full access for editting going forward. Housed in IRT's Data Center, your site will be on a high availability infrastructure and will be backed up nightly. More
  6. Site Maintenance: Content maintenance is performed by designated authors in your group. We will provide access for any number of authors you'd like and can taylor their access if desired. Pages can be instantly published or routed for approval prior to posting. We also provide training and daily technical support for web authors via the web help desk. More Right Arrow
