Indexing with Search Engines

Stanford Google

Every Stanford Web page will be indexed by Stanford Google automatically, as long as there is a link to the page from any other indexed page, such as Departments. The Google robot crawls Stanford sites twice per week. If you have a new domain, make sure to ask that it be added to the "stanford_medicine" subcollection for all School of Medicine sites, using the WebHelp form.

Free submission services

A good place to start publicizing your site is at a free submission service. These pages will ask you for the above information and can forward it to several of the major search engines. This saves you the time of having to retype the information for each directory you wish to be listed in. However, these free sites only submit information to a limited number of sites, so may wish to use more than one service. Below are links to major free submission services:

- Submit-it! (20+ sites free)
- AddMe
- Submission Services
- Search Engines

Search engines and directories

You can also submit to individual search engines. Note: Once a site is indexed it can take a while for it to be re-indexed, so tune up your pages before indexing them.

Below are links to the pages to add listings to some of the Internet's top engines and directories:

- AltaVista
- Dogpile
- Google
- Yahoo!
