Switching to a Secure Contribute Connection

IRT will now only support WebDAV connections through the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. Publishing through this protocol will ensure the security of sunet id's and passwords as they are transmitted to IRT's servers. To switch to the more secure connection, you will only need to replace your Contribute connection key.

  • Launch Contribute
  • In Contribute's main menu click Edit > My Connections... on a PC or Contribute > My Connections... on a Mac
  • In the resulting window your existing connection(s) should be listed. Click on the one you would like to replace and click the "Remove" button at the top of the window. This will delete your existing connection.

My Connections Window

  • To create a new secure connection, click on the "Create..." button. This will launch a connection wizard.
  • From the first screen click "Next >"
  • Enter the Web address of your website. This address should start with "http://med.stanford.edu/". If your site resides under a custom URL, replace the name space with the word "med" and place the namespace at the end of the URL:
    • Custom URL: http://mysite.stanford.edu/
    • Long-form URL: http://med.stanford.edu/mysite/
  • Click "Next >"
Connection Wizard
  • For "How do you connect to your web server" select "WebDAV"
  • Enter the WebDAV URL for your site, which is different than your site's Web address. This URL is derived from the namespace. Just add the namespace to the end of "https://irt-publish.stanford.edu/live/", e.g.:
  • The letter "s" after "http" indicates that the connection should be a secure one
  • Enter your SUNet ID and password and click "Next >"
  • Enter your full name and e-mail address and click "Next >"
  • Click "Done"
