How to Request a New Blog

Each blog needs a primary author. This is the person who will be the main contact for any communications related to the blog by IRT, and who will be the authority for monitoring posting behavior by additional authors. The primary author should also be the first line for questions from additional authors of the blog. IRT will handle errors and technical problems not related to the normal operation of the blog, and provide access to new blog authors.

All blogs are subject to the Stanford Terms of Use policy and will be monitored to ensure compliance. Please take the time to review this page.

In order to set up a blog for you, we need the following information. Please submit a request through the Web Help form, providing the details below. Leave blank any items that don't apply to you.

  • URL of existing SoM site where blog can be installed:
  • Desired URL, if a new site: [supply only if you don't already have a URL]
  • Name of blog:
  • Should blog look like existing host site? (only available for SoM Web format sites): Yes or No
  • Initial categories for postings (we suggest you provide at least one):
  • Primary author:
  • Additional authors: [all authors must have SUNet ID]

Weblog setup may take up to a week. Let us know if there is a specific reason for greater urgency.

For Web Authors

If you also handle publication of an associated static School of Medicine site, you will find a directory for the blog's files within the directory for your main site's files when you view it through Dreamweaver. The directory name will usually be reflected in the blog's URL. We suggest you avoid uploading files from this directory to the server, as they should be managed through MedBlog. If you get all the site files from the server, delete the blog folder from your local folder for the site. You can then synchronize individual files, ranges of files and/or directories by selecting them on the Local side, without downloading or interfering with the blog directory.
