SOM Redesign 2007

On April 28th IRT launched a new design for the School of Medicine public websites. We have dubbed this design "version 2.0". The new design has many exciting new features, including

• Modernized, clean look
• Designed to seemlessly incorporate Flash, video, podcasts, RSS, etc.
• Branding alignment and improved synergy with SHC
• Better navigation, customizable tabs for horizontal navigation
• Much better, more manageable templating under-the-hood
• More elegant design for departmental homepages
• Redesigned faculty profiles
• Ability to integrate seminars calendar into departmental sites
• Coordinated blogs and wikis

Example Sites

Here are some good examples of sites in the 2.0 format:

The Process

The upgrade to version 2.0 requires an extensive change to the templates that drive the design framework. On April 28th the top tier of the SOM site was converted to 2.0. Most of the departments have been converted to an intermediate design labeled "1.9". We will follow-up to convert sites from 1.9 to 2.0 in a rolling fashion over the next several months. Site owners will be contacted in advance with the schedule.
