Stanford Medicine 25 Pocket App for physical exam
Project Overview
The purpose of the project is to deliver the content of the Stanford Medicine 25 physical exam initiative in a portable, convenient, and easily accessible format that can be brought to the bedside. This project is currently hosted at the following website: http://stanford25.wordpress.com
In a portable application format, the Stanford Medicine 25 content would be easily accessible by mobile devices with additional personalization and functionality for end-users. The application will provide an abridged version of Stanford Medicine 25 content so that medical students are able to efficiently review physical exam components just prior to performing physical exam maneuvers. The application will be used in conjunction with POM practicum during the 2nd year, and during internal medicine clerkships during the 3rd and 4th years.
This application would also include a "log" or "tracker" function which would allow students to document the types of patients they have encountered, physical exam maneuvers they have performed, and potentially identify areas for improvement. As curse directors, we would potentially institute a requirement for our students to be taught a minimum number of techniques per month by preceptors, attendings, and residents at the bedside. The "tracker" features of this application would potentially be utilized in conjunction to collect and organize this data.
Additional mobile application functionality would also potentially allow our students t document physical findings utilizing camera and video capabilities of their mobile devices. This content could then be reviewed with supervising housestaff or attendings for teaching opportunities, or shared with colleagues during teaching conferences.
