Network Infrastructure Upgrade Specific Aims
- Establish a standardized wiring configuration within and between buildings
- Provide for better fault-tolerance by establishing additional redundant pathways between buildings and primary networking facilities
- Upgrade the network equipment servicing this new cable plant
- Provide for the construction or renovation required as a direct component of the project
Planning Process
A number of considerations are included in planning this project. Depending upon the location, size of project, or timing of related projects, considerations can include:
- age of current network in the various areas
- network utilization by users
- planned remodeling projects and construction in various areas
- planned relocations of departments/divisions
- scheduling and coordination with Communications Services
- space availability for terminating wiring (telecomm closets)
After preliminary planning is underway, IRT Networking will be working with users to more clearly define and resolve issues surrounding:
- specific user requirements
- wiring installation - room access, scheduling, safety
- departmental costs - voice moves, adapters for upgrading existing equipment for new service
- downtime or outages required for installation and cutover of services
- activation and security requirements
- other services impacted but not directly related to Infrastructure Upgrade project
