How to Find the Hardware Address of your Computer
Current operating systems are listed on top. Legacy operating systems are below.
For PC Users:
Running WinNT/2000/XP:
- Pull up/down the Start Menu to "Run".
- Type in "cmd" and hit return. This opens up a DOS window.
- Type "ipconfig /all" in the DOS window.
- Your Hardware Address should be listed as the "Physical Address" for your Ethernet and/or wireless adapter under their respective headings.
For Macintosh users:
For MacOS X:
- Open the System Preferences
- Click on Network
- Pull down "Show" to "Built-in Ethernet" (and/or “Airport”)
- MacOS 10.3: click on the “Ethernet” tab (and/or “Airport”)
- The Ethernet ID shows up at the top of the window.
- The Ethernet Address/Ethernet ID (or Airport ID) shows up in the bottom of the window.
Legacy Operating Systems:
For PC Users:
Running Win95/98/ME:
- Pull up/down the Start Menu to "Run".
- Type in "winipcfg" and hit return.
- This opens up a graphical window with your TCP/IP networking information in it.
- There is a drop down menu in WinIPCfg of your adapters. If not already selected, pull it down to your Ethernet card (and/or Wireless card).
- Do not give us the PPP adapter address.
- Your Hardware Address should then be listed in WinIPCfg as the "Adapter Address".
For Macintosh users:
Running MacOS 8/9
- Open the AppleTalk Control Panel.
- Select "Built-in Ethernet" from the "Connect via" menu
- Pull down the "File" menu to "Get Info". The Hardware Address of the ethernet
card should be listed there.
- Select "AirPort" from the "Connect via" menu
- Pull down the "File" menu to "Get Info". The Hardware Address of the AirPort
card should be listed there.
