PC - Information for faculty, staff, and students in the School of Medicine

We support Windows XP Pro and Windows 2000. If you are not at these levels, call 5-8000 and we can assist you in understanding any limitations and then upgrading.

If you want to get ready, follow these steps:

  1. Insure Anti-Virus software is up to date
    1. Live Update (Configure your software for regular updates)
    2. Daily Virus Scan (Configure your software for daily scans)
  2. Insure that Microsoft updates are automatic
    1. WinXP
    2. Win2k
  3. For XP Service Pack 2 users, run the XP SP2 configuration tool
  4. For Windows, install BigFix, a program that insures that anti-virus and Microsoft updates are current
  5. Download and run the standard lock down program
    1. Performs a set of basic security checks appropriate to Windows 2000 and XP computers (not servers). It can also repair many of the problems it may find, such as weak user account passwords

  7. Applications and Data loaded in standard locations
    1. Exceptions to locations of applications or data should be recorded in a text file on the desktop ("IRT exceptions.txt")
