This opinion piece discusses StemLifeLine, a company that claims to create "personal stem cell lines" from unused frozen embryos of couples undergoing in vitro fertilization. It was written by Christopher Scott, director of the Program on Stem Cells in Society in the Stanford Center for Biomedical Ethics, and Eric Chiao, a stem-cell biologist at the Stanford Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine and instructor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
