Conferences

A full variety of clinical and research conferences supported by the division.

  • The Clinical Lecture Series (2007 schedule) (2008 schedule) is a weekly seminar, given over the two years of clinical training, designed to provide didactic education in subject material integral for the study and practice of infectious diseases.  These lectures are at 8:00 am on Tuesday mornings in the CCSR room 4205. The lectures are organized into twelve core “blocks”, in which each block is focused on a specific disease area.
  • Journal Club is held once per month and provides fellow-run discussion of current clinical and research topics in infectious diseases.  Journal clubs either meet in place of one of the Tuesday morning lectures or following the Tuesday morning didactic lecture.
  • Professor Rounds occur, in general, bi-weekly as informal discussions on wide-ranging topics with Dr. Jack Remington.  These are also held following a Tuesday morning didactic lecture.  The first-year fellow on the Stanford general ID service presents the case.
  • Weekly divisional Grand Rounds (2008 rounds schedule) provide a forum for the presentation of clinical cases and research activities of divisional members and invited outside speakers. Grand Rounds are held every Thursday afternoon throughout the year with the exception of holidays.  They are mandatory for all fellows to attend.

    The schedule is as follows:

1st, 2nd, and 3rd Thursday of the month: 4:30-6:00 P.M. at Stanford University Medical Center, S101, Medicine conference room.

Fourth Thursday of the month: 6:30-8:00 P.M., Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, Rehab conference room.

Occasionally there is a 5th Thursday.  When this occurs, the senior fellows will present their research or we will invite an outside speaker, at Stanford in S101, from 4:30-6:00 P.M

  • Microbiology Rounds. Every Thursday at 10:30 am, the director of the microbiology laboratory meets at Stanford to discuss interesting cases from the previous week.  The same Microbiology rounds are also held on Thursdays at 2:30 at the VA.
  • The Stanford HIV Investigator’s Meeting (SHIM) is a monthly research conference that meets to discuss topics in basic science and clinical HIV research.  This meets on Friday morning at 8:00 am at the Palo Alto VA, in the conference room in MB-4, usually on the third Friday of the month.  All fellows are invited to attend.
