Stanford E-mail Account

The Department of Graduate Medical Education requests that you obtain a Stanford SUNet ID and e-mail account. A SUNet ID is required to access many of the online resources available to you at Stanford (e.g. Lane Library).

If you have an e-mail address that is in the form of your_SUNet_ID@stanford.edu, then you already have a Stanford SUNet ID and e-mail account.

If you do not have a Stanford SUNet ID and e-mail account, please do the following:

  1. Go to http://sunetid.stanford.edu.
  2. Click Request my own SUNet ID.
  3. Click provide other indentification (you do not have a "University ID#").
  4. Complete all fields on the next page, then click Continue.
  5. On the next page, enter your choice for a SUNet ID. The SUNet ID you choose will be your permanent, visible identifier at Stanford that cannot be changed.
  6. Click the boxes to indicate your agreement to the policies, then click Continue.
  7. Select password and enter a personal fact on the next page, then click Continue.

NOTE: DO NOT do this before JUNE 1. If you request a SUNet ID before June 1, your request will be discarded and you will have to reapply.

Once you have created your SUNet ID, please send an e-mail to in the Department of Graduate Medical Education. To sponsor your account, she will need:

  1. Your full name
  2. Your SUNet ID

Account sponsorship will take a couple of days. You can check the status of your e-mail account at http://sunetid.stanford.edu.

For instructions on how to access your e-mail once your account has been sponsored, click here.
