3 Residents Awarded PD Funding

Three General Surgery residents have received 2020 General Surgery Professional Development Faculty Awards. Drs. Carlos Ayala, Jeff Choi, and Charlotte Rajasingh were given more than $150,000 to fund their research projects (listed respectively):
• Characterization of a novel loss of function Atg7 mutation in development of cholangiocarcinoma or biliary ductal cancer (Mentor: Drs. George Poultsides/Hanlee Ji)
• Development and Validation of a Rib Fracture Frailty Index (Mentor: Dr. Joe Forrester)
• Outcomes after Ambulatory Surgery at Surgical Centers in the United States (Mentor: Dr. Sherry Wren)
Applications were evaluated based on significance, innovation, approach, mentorship plan, and professional development goals.
