Beyond inpatient consults and procedures, fellows have exposure to a variety outpatient clinics, procedures, as well as educational conferences  and meetings at each of the different training sites.  Below is a sample schedule and brief description of some of the conferences:

Continuity Clinic
*First year fellows will each be assigned to one half-day of general GI continuity clinic a week either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday afternoons.  Senior fellows are re-assigned to sub-specialty clinics for continuity clinic beginning in the second year.

GI Research Conference
Mondays, 12pm – 1pm
Journal Club aims to educate the audience about important clinical and/or basic research developments that are likely to have a significant impact of patient care.  Between September and June, the GI fellows participate in this conference on a rotating schedule.   One attending or  fellow will have one hour to critically review a recent and important GI article using Power Point format. 

Board Review
Wednesdays, 4:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Fellows and faculty will review board questions with a fellow moderating the session.

Digestive Diseases Clinical Conference
Wednesdays, 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm
The GI fellows, along with residents and fellows from General Surgery, Transplant Surgery, Thoracic Surgery and Pediatric Gastroenterology participate in this multi-disciplinary conference between September and June.  A GI fellow and a 2nd presenter from one of the other departments will each have 30 minutes to present an interesting patient and then provide teaching on a topic inspired by the patient case including a review of the recent literature.
 
GI Multi-Disciplinary Board
Wednesdays, 3:00pm – 4:00pm
The purpose of this conference is to quickly discuss complex patients with benign GI disorders who are being actively worked up. Radiology and surgery services are invited to participate in reviewing imaging, motility and other studies, etc., to help come up with treatment plans for these patients.

Core Curriculum Lectures
Fridays, 7:00 am – 8:00 am
Attendings from the Division of Gastroenterology/Hepatology, Department of Radiology (Diagnostic and Interventional), Department of Pathology and the Department of Epidemiology will lecture on a variety of topics between September and June.

Fellowship Program Meeting
Fridays (1st of the month), 8:00 am – 8:30 am
All fellows, program director, and fellowship coordinator meet together to discuss any issues and updates regarding the training program.
