The Division of Evaluation produces videos periodically to document program and evaluation activity. Some videos are tailored to specific problems or issues and made only for the Medical School program or course. Other videos, like the ones presented below are available to the Stanford community. Standardized Patients and the Clinical Performance Examination Standardized patients (or actors) are used to help students learn how conduct a history and physical examination without placing patients at risk. It is an example of an educational simulation. Standardized patients are also used to assess student performance, particularly concerning their ability to perform a history and physical examination. The Clinical Performance Examination is a required test of student performance, relying on standardized patients. It is an important measure of the overal effectiveness of the curriculum. Surgery Faculty Retreat - Student Ratings and Feedback The faculty take student assessment seriously. They are discussed and used to refine and improve the curriculum. This video documents how the faculty embraced student feedback concerning their clinical rotation. Drs. Sherry Wren, Myriam Curet, and David Fetterman presented the evaluation findings and facilitated the discussion. Dr. Thomas Krummel, Susan B. Ford Surgeon-in-Chief, reinforced the significance of the findings and the need to constantly improve performance. |

American Association of Medical Colleges The Division of Evaluation orchestrates professional association sessions, highlighting medical education findings conducted throughout the School. Medical education and evaluation work conducted on the course, clerkship, scholarly concentration, and translating discoveries levels of the curriculum are shared at professional associations such as the American Association of Medical Colleges. Findings related to PGY-1 performance are also explored.

One of the venues to disseminate these methodological findings is the American Evaluation Association. Question Writing Workshop

The Division of Evaluation routinely identifies areas meriting attention. One such areas is testing or question writing. Periodically, the Director of the Division, invites experts to the School to assist faculty as they respond to evaluation findings.
