LEAN Training Policy

I. Scope & Applicability

This policy applies to the 8-hour training to meet Lean requirements empowering faculty, staff, and students to advance the preeminence of Stanford Medicine.

II. Policy Statement

EPS has implemented and designed Lean Process Improvement to ensure development of staff in SoM’s continuous improvement methodology. All EPS full-time benefits eligible staff are required to complete 8 hours of Lean training by the end of the fiscal year. Previous participation earlier in FY20 in launches and other activities can be included as part of meeting the requirement for training hours.

III. Procedures

Each department, unit, or program included in EPS will develop, document, implement, and train its workforce on the procedures necessary to comply with this policy. Directors of each department, unit, or program are responsible for tracking number of hours completed to fulfill the required training.

Attendance (choose up to 2)

  • Attend a Lean Launch report out (1 hour)
  • Attend a Process Excellence sponsored training or presentation (1 hour/per hour of training)
  • Attend a process improvement related workshop at Stanford or another organization (1 hour/per hour of training)
  • Engage in an SOM or EPS-provided training session (1 hour/per hour of training)
     

Participation (minimum of 2)

  • Actively participate in a full Lean Launch (up to a maximum of 3 hours of credit)
  • Implement a minimum of five Visboard ideas (1 hour)
  • Present your team’s Vis board at a specified staff meeting (1 hour)
  • Enroll in a SmartSheet, Miro, or other related technology training (1 hour/per hour of training, up to a maximum of 3 hours)

IV. Exceptions

Any exceptions to this policy must be approved by the Lean team.
