Derek Yecies, MD

Derek grew up in the Bay Area. He attended Princeton University for his undergraduate training where he majored in molecular biology and neuroscience, was active in musical groups, and played on the varsity and club lacrosse teams. His undergraduate research focused on the effects of contextual memory on motor memory reconsolidation. Prior to attending medical school at Boston University, Derek worked in the Letai lab at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute where his research focused on novel cancer therapeutics targeting the BCL-2 family of anti-apoptotic proteins. Derek is currently undertaking a postdoctoral fellowship in the Grant and de la Zerda labs with the goal of translating recent advances in optical coherence tomography and molecular imaging into tools that can be used to localize brain tumors and detect brain tumor margins intraoperatively. Outside of the hospital Derek enjoys spending time with his wife, son, daughter and extended family, cooking, and music.
