Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)

What is an eyelid lift?

An eyelid lift is called a blepharoplasty, and is a surgical procedure used to rejuvenate the upper or lower eyelid. There are many different ways to achieve this, and we can mention a few.

UPPER EYELID BLEPHAROPLASTY
The traditionally used method for upper lid blepharoplasty is to use an incision in the upper eyelid crease and one slightly above it to remove a portion of the upper eyelid skin. Along with this, a small strip of muscle can be taken, as well as some fat.

Dr. Most and others have realized, however, that excess removal of skin, muscle, and fat from the upper eyelid can actually have a detrimental effect. In many cases, removal of fat and muscle tissue from the upper lid can result in an overly aged look to the upper eyelid.  In addition, we have realized that each of us has a specific anatomy to our periorbital area. For this reason, Dr. Most evaluates each patient, and often examines old photographs to determine true changes that have occurred with age. In each case, he maps out a plan to modify the upper lid/brow contour to match as best a possible the original form. Matching exactly is impossible, but in this way a more natural rejuvenation occurs.  We all know of movie stars who have changed their look completely (and not in a good way) by having a traditional blepharoplasty or browlift performed.

What is the procedure like?

The procedure can be done awake or asleep. Dr. Most can accommodate most patients requests for eyelid surgery anesthesia.

What is the recovery period?

Patients may expect 5-7 days of swelling or bruising in the eyelid/cheek area. Some patients recover more rapidly, some may take a few days longer.
