Join Dean Lloyd Minor and Richard Besser, MD, President and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, for a lecture about the social determinants of health and health equity.

Since April 2017, Dr. Besser has served as president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the largest private foundation in the country devoted solely to improving the nation’s health. For eight years prior to his current role, Dr. Besser was chief health and medical editor at ABC News. In this position, he provided medical analysis and reports and his weekly health chats on social media reached millions. Prior to joining ABC News, Dr. Besser was director of the Coordinating Office for Terrorism Preparedness and Emergency Response at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where he was responsible for all public health emergency preparedness and emergency response activities. 

From January 2009 to June 2009, Dr. Besser headed the response to the H1N1 influenza pandemic and received the Surgeon General's Medallion for his leadership. He accepted the Dean's Medal for his contributions to public health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2011.
