CCM Conference Calendar

CCM Fellowship Workshop

An introductory workshop in various aspects of CCM, covering Airway skills (basic and advanced; including LMA, Aintree rescue, surgical airway techniques, etc), Ultrasound Vascular Access (venous and arterial access including femoral/axillary sites, and use of needle guides with ultrasound), and introductory Ultrasound/TTE Echo (basic Echo exam, FAST exam, DVT, Lung exam) instruction using mannikins, TTE simulator, and human volunteers.

Resident Didactic ICU Conference

Basic CCM topics are presented by our CCM faculty or fellows to the residents/students on the rotation. Fellows may attend to learn basics as well as to appreciate different faculty styles of instruction, use of instructional media, audience participation a oral delivery and unique ways of dealing with the subject matter. Fellows are encouraged to develop several of their own lectures on basic topics relevant to CCM during their fellowship.

Trauma SICU Conference

A weekly teaching conference sponsored by the Trauma Surgical ICU service. General and specialized topics are presented by faculty and fellows.

Fellow's CCM Didactic Conference

Weekly conference taught by Medical School faculty (CCM faculty and other invited faculty) primarily for the Fellows in training. Topics covered include those proscribed by the ABA and ABIM for comprehensive training in Critical Care Medicine.

CCM Specialty Conference

February 26, 2006 marked the beginning of the first monthly mulitidisciplinary ICU conference at Stanford University started by Dr. Fred Mihm (Stanford CCM #4), with participation from Adult Med-Surg services at Stanford and the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital, Pediatric ICU service at Lucille Packard Children's Hospital, as well as Surgical Trauma, Cardio-Thoracic, and Neuro critical care services. In 2014, the conference, under it's new name, CCM Specialty Conference has been broadened in scope to include the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center ICU services (both medical and surgical), as well as the Obstetrical Anesthesia and PACU services, areas critical care often intersect.

Emergency Medicine/Critical Care Medicine Conference

August 20, 2008, marked the beginning of the first monthly joint conference with the Emergency Medicine department and is indicative of the ongoing evolution and cross-bridging between these two specialties. This conference is the brainchild of Dr. Tsuyoshi Mitarai (Stanford CCM #119). That year (2008) was also significant as we for the first time had 3 EM-trained fellows, two double-boarded (EM-Med, EM-Anes), as well as our first EM-only trained fellow.

CCM Journal Club Conference

Monthly meeting held in a private room at Il Fornaio Restaurant, Palo Alto, where one of the fellows delivers a formal presentation (Keynote/Powerpoint) of an important journal article and appropriate critique. Excellent food and enlightening discussion between attendings and fellows is a highlight of this educational event.
When: 2nd Thursday of the month

Mortality/Morbidity Conference

Fellows on service at the Stanford Med-Surg ICU present complicated cases from the current block rotation.

Transesophageal Echocardiography Lecture Series

A set of introductory and advanced lectures are presented by Cardiac Anesthesia faculty on TEE. These educational events supplement the online and bedside instruction in TTE.

ICU Echo Rounds

This new conference was started in 2012 to provide a format for presenting case examples where echo images were used for diagnosis, treatment or monitoring. Fellows involved with Echo instruction present in this conference with CCM faculty.

The Schwartz Center Rounds

A monthly, multidisciplinary forum where clinical caregivers discuss emotional and social issues that arise in caring for patients. This conference was started at Stanford in 2013 by one of our CCM faculty, Dr. Sara Niravan (Stanford CCM #149), and is modelled after similar conferences held across the country.
