Stanford School of Medicine
Critical Care Medicine In the Department of Anesthesia

Fellowship Application

Fellowship Positions are available to candidates who are Board eligible or certified in Anesthesia or Internal Medicine. Applicants shall have, or be able to obtain, a California medical license prior to the start of their fellowship. Positions are filled in the summer (July 1, Aug 1) and winter (Jan 1).

ANESTHESIOLOGY:

Applicants currently finishing an anesthesia residency can consider applying for one of two options:

  1. The CA-3 anesthesia year plus one critical care fellowship year. This would allow the anesthesia applicant to complete his anesthesia training at Stanford with a CA-3 year which would include six months of intensive care followed by a fellowship year of 12 months, resulting in one-and-a-half years of ICU training. The fellowship year would have to be a complete 12 months after the CA-3 year to meet current standards set by the American Board of Anesthesiology for one year in addition to the residency training program. The number of CA-3 years available for this program will vary with the needs of the Stanford Anesthesia Residency Program.

  2. One-year Critical Care Fellowship: A fellowship year done after completing the CA-3 year at an approved anesthesia program. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply to (see application requirements + downloadable application form below):

    CCM Fellowship Director
Stanford University School of Medicine, H3580

MEDICINE:

Applicants currently finishing an Internal Medicine residency may apply to our program for one of the two following possibilities:

  1. Candidates having completed Internal Medicine training may elect either a one year CCM Fellowship if they have either completed or plan to complete training in an approved medicine subspecialty, or a two year CCM Fellowship. One or the other alternative satisfies the requirements of the ABIM for CCM certification.

  2. Three-year Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Fellowship: Pulmonary Medicine programs across the country have been restructured to comply with Board requirements for one year of Critical Care Training in order to allow the candidate to become certified in both Pulmonary Medicine and CCM.. At Stanford, this program will allow for a minimum of one year of Critical Care training in conjunction with Pulmonary Medicine subspecialty training. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply to:
