1908: What a Year It Was

In addition to Stanford University establishing the Medical School, there were several significant events that occurred in 1908:
- President Theodore Roosevelt visits Panama, becoming the first U.S. president to travel abroad while in office.
- Henry Ford develops the first Model T automobile, which sells for $850.
- Einstein proposes quantum theory.
- Swiss chemist Jacques Brandenberger invents cellophane.
- Gideon Bible Company started.
- The first large deposit of petroleum is discovered in Persia, marking the beginning of the Middle East oil boom.
- 1st passenger flight in an airplane
- 4th modern Olympic games opens in London
- Paper cups introduced by the International Paper Co New York.
- Muir Woods was designated as the 10th National Monument. It was the first time a private individual donated land to the federal government to create a National Monument.
