Being flexible in location helped me stay in academia, though it still was not easy to coordinate my and my husband's careers. Luckily I enjoy clinical practice as well as clinical research, as I have a balance of both at UMass. But after fellowship I took the opportunity to travel and worked a locum tenens job in New Zealand.
