I started my postdoc at Stanford University with the intention of spending several years doing research and moving on to an industrial job at a biotechnology company. However, I soon realized that conducting bench work was not really satisfying to me. My next step was to seek guidance and counsel through the SoM Career Center and I began to explore alternative career paths. In addition to one-on-one advising sessions, I attended several of their seminars, which is where I was introduced to Intellectual Property Law. Their assistance and guidance throughout helped me secure multiple offers and ultimately select a position as a Technical Specialist (i.e. scientific advisor) at a great law firm. This career choice is perfect for my personality; I enjoy the ability to be close to science, but away from the frustration of bench work. I truly feel energized and excited about taking my career in this direction.
