This presentation will illuminate how important failure is to successfully developing new products. Peter Mills, Vice President of Business Development at Speck Design, will discuss the various types of failure, and show the progress of a new product- a non-invasive blood glucose monitoring device, the holy grail of diabetes management- as it moves from concept to reality.


Speaker Bio:

Peter Mills is Vice President of Business Development at Speck Design, a leading product design firm in Silicon Valley. Over the past 6 years, Speck has grown at over a 30% compound annual growth rate. Speck designs new products for large public companies as well as venture-backed startups in medical devices, networking equipment, and consumer and industrial products. Prior to Speck Design, Peter spent 15 years selling sophisticated industrial robotics and automation systems, with Adept Technology, the leading US maker of industrial robots, and Hewlett Packard. He understands the design and manufacturing needs of a variety of industries including medical devices, disk drives, consumer products, food packaging, printers, computers and networking, and semiconductor equipment. He has extensive international business experience in Japan, Singapore, and Korea. Peter also has five years of experience in enterprise supply chain software, embedded java virtual machines, and Voice over IP software. Peter’s hobbies include bicycling, hiking, sailing and conversational Japanese. Peter earned an MBA from Harvard Business School and an A.B., cum laude, from Dartmouth College in engineering.
