Crown Jewels and War Chests: All About IP

Intellectual property rights are the foundation of most technology companies.  But few companies are started in a vacuum, and securing rights to your own intellectual property, and avoiding infringement of others’ IP, requires careful action.  This session will address key topics in IP creation and licensing such as :

    • What inventions are patentable, and what pitfalls should I avoid to preserve patentability?
    • Should I (and can I) file provisional patent applications?
    • What’s the difference between patentability and freedom to operate?
    • How should I think about licensing?

    Presenters:
Jonathan Dickstein, Partner (Life Sciences), Morrison and Foerster
Kirsten Leute, Sr. Licensing Associate, Stanford University's Office of Technology Licensing (OTL)
