The Department of Mechanical Engineering is pleased to announce a new course during Winter Quarter 2009 that focuses on European Entrepreneurship and Innovation Thought Leaders (ME421). Offered on Monday afternoons at 4:15-5:30 pm, ME421 will present CEOs/founders of leading European startup companies, venture capital firms, technology corporations and university incubators, including MySQL, Skype, Google Russia,  Siemens, Qinetiq, TU Denmark, IONA and many others. Stanford is partnering with several European governments - including Finland, Estonia, Denmark and Norway - to offer this unique view into the state of entrepreneurship, venture capital and technology innovation in Western, Central and Eastern Europe. Sectors covered will include IT, clean tech (energy, environment and semiconductors), medical devices, transportation and life sciences.

ME421 is a 1-unit Elective Course open to students in Engineering, Medicine, Business, Law and other Stanford schools. The course is also open to the public, and will be webcast via the Stanford Center for Professional Development.
