There are tremendous opportunities for both clinicians and researchers to make significant contributions and build satisfying careers at the points where banking, finance, and science intersect.  Bioscience companies, venture firms, and investment banks rely heavily on individuals with strong backgrounds in science and medicine for input regarding research priorities, potential markets to enter, and many other business decisions.  This program offers a unique opportunity to hear from a biochemist recognized globally as an expert in finance and banking, providing first-hand insights into:

         - dynamics between biomedical and business professionals within the sector
         - how research and clinical backgrounds are employed
         - typical roles that researchers and clinicians perform across levels

About the Speaker:

Nandini Tandon, Ph.D.
, is a Venture Partner of MDS Capital and opened their new office in Palo Alto. Prior to joining MDS she was a Partner with RBC Capital Partners and started their new office in San Francisco. Dr. Tandon has a diverse background in business operations, strategic planning, venture capital, deal negotiations and marketing and sales. She has successfully bridged scientific technologies with business applications across biotechnology, pharmaceutical and semiconductors, at companies including Zyomyx Inc., a proteomics company as their Chief Business officer, at Hyseq Inc., a genomics company, as their V.P. of Business Development and prior to that at Chiron Corporation, Glaxo Wellcome, and Microelectronics Center of North Carolina. She initiated and led the second largest deal in plant genomics on behalf of Hyseq with American Home Products.
 
Dr. Tandon serves on the boards of both private companies and non-profit organizations. She is a past or present Director or Board Observer for Ambit Biosciences, Inc., KAI Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Conforma Therapeutics, Corp., Angiogenix, Inc., Cell Biosciences Inc.
 
She Co-Chaired the International Committee for the BIO 2004, is on the board of the Indo-US Business Council, and is the Chair for the TIE Life Sciences SIG in the Silicon Valley. A White House Intern and a Phi Beta Kappa, Dr. Tandon received her doctorate in biochemistry from Duke University, North Carolina and her bachelors cum laude from Hollins College, Virginia.
