Michael A. Alvarez, Director

Michael A. Alvarez is the Director of the Stanford University - School of Medicine Career Center.  Within this capacity, Michael is responsible for directing and managing all aspects of operation and development for the Center, providing specialized career guidance and support for all medical and life science trainees and alumni, and establishing formal relationships with prospective employers across a wide range of industry sectors. His professional experience of more than 15 years spans both business and academic settings, including coaching and graduate student advising at Boston College, management consulting as part of Accenture's NYC practice, founding and directing the UCSF Career Center - serving all graduate schools, programs, and disciplines - and providing independent consultation to life science companies in the areas of organizational design and business strategy.  Michael holds bachelors and master's degrees from Boston College, a certificate in Intellectual Property Management from the University of Washington, and studied business at IESE in Barcelona, Spain.

Stephanie K. Eberle, Manager of Educational Resources and Client Services

Stephanie K. Eberle is the Manager of Educational Resources and Client Services for the School of Medicine Career Center.  Within this role, Stephanie develops curricula focusing on professional skills/training and insights into roles for scientists and clinicians across multiple employment sectors.  Prior to joining the SoMCC, Stephanie was part of Stanford’s central campus Career Development Center, advising graduate students and postdocs from various disciplines across campus, teaching a “Career and Life Planning” course, and developing programs on both academic and non-academic job preparation. She has co-written a text book chapter, consulted on diversity issues at companies and organizations throughout the Bay Area, and held numerous counseling and program development positions in her 13 years of professional experience.  Stephanie holds both the M.Ed., and B.A.’s in Psychology and Sociology, from Ohio University.

Suzanne Frasca Hom, Program Coordinator

Suzanne Frasca Hom is the Program Coordinator for the School of Medicine Career Center. In her role, Suzanne provides career counseling for life sciences trainees; develops and coordinates the Center's recruitment programs, events and seminars; and manages the Center's operations. A former director of Biosciences Admissions for the School of Medicine, Suzanne has worked with graduate students and postdocs in the School of Medicine over the past nine years. In addition to her work at the School of Medicine, Suzanne has served as an academic advisor for the Stanford Undergraduate Advising Center. She holds a B.A. in Art History from UC Santa Cruz and M.A. in Counseling from Santa Clara University.
