General Information

The SoMCC offers a variety of formats in which you can participate in career development programs, management, and support.

Three Branch Curriculum

Our program is structured around a three-branched curriculum, (Careers in Science, Industry Insights, and Professional Development Courses) plus a basic speaker series.

  1. Careers in Science: These seminars provide an introduction to the diverse functional roles performed by biomedical science professionals across a range of work settings.
  2. Industry Insights: This series provides an opportunity for leaders from academia, government, and industry to share first-hand perspective and insights into how political, social, and economic forces dynamically impact the global healthcare and biomedical science industry.
  3. Professional Development Courses: This series introduces practical skills, information, and frameworks necessary to effectively approach career management and optimize professional opportunities.

Speaker Series: Introductions to leaders in life science research, clinical, and adjacent/related fields.

Confidential Career Consultation

We highly encourage you to visit the Career Center before your final year. Often students & postdocs believe they shouldn't visit the Career Center unless they have a specific career issue or an organized plan. Not true! Schedule an appointment, introduce yourself and let us work with you to reach your career goals.

To schedule a consultation, please email us, somcareers@stanford.edu , or call us at 650-725-7687. Provide us with your name, email address, a contact phone number where we can reach you and weekday times you are available to meet. We will confirm your appointment within three business days.

SoMCC Library

The SoMCC Library houses print resources on a broad variety of topics of interest to biomedical scientists and clinicians. Sample topics include:

SoMcareers Distribution List

Stanford hosts many talented graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in the biomedical sciences across many schools, and we welcome you all to the resources and services of the School of Medicine Career Center (SoMCC). Through co-curricular programs providing insight into a wide range of professional settings, the SoMCC supports the professional development of all medical and life science trainees across schools and disciplines, and hosts relationships with organizations across industry sectors.
