Biostatistics Shared Resource

About the Biostatistics Shared Resource

The Biostatistics Shared Resource (BSR) provides statistical support to SCI members by engages them on their data-related needs.  Specifically, BSR members assist researchers at each stage of a study’s lifecycle, including project design, mid-study evaluation and the interpretation and reporting of results. In addition, BSR members mentor SCI investigators in research methods.  Finally, the BSR assists with the development and review of proposed studies and the planning of research-related data management systems.

A major priority of the BSR is to work closely with SCI members on the development of proposals for submission to NIH and foundations for support of high quality cutting-edge cancer-related research.  Our philosophy is that BSR members become fully integrated into research teams of SCI investigators to effectively collaborate on specific projects.

BSR members are assigned to projects by matching on the needs of each project, with the general mission of creating long-term collaborative relationships between BSR and SCI members.

The BSR works closely with the Research Informatics Shared Resource who are responsible for managing the Stanford Cancer Institute Research Database (SCIRDB), which allows SCI researchers to collect, integrate and analyze de-identified patient data from Stanford’s electronic health records and from a wide range of other data sources.
