June 2010 Funding Opportunities

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

The Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research has invited the Stanford Cancer Center to nominate a junior faculty member for the V Foundation Scholar Award. Each grant will total $200,000, and is given in two yearly installments. This grant has a zero indirect cost policy, and funds are to be used to offset the direct costs of the research project.

The grant is designed to identify, retain and further the careers of talented young investigators. Provides funds directly to young scientists who are developing their own independent laboratory research projects. These grants enable talented young scientists to establish their laboratories and gain a competitive edge necessary to earn additional funding from other sources. The V Scholars determine how to best use the funds in their research projects.

The V Foundation Scholar candidate must:
*Be associated with a non-profit institution
*Have demonstrated expertise and promise in the designated areas of research
*Have completed at least two years of fellowship training
*Currently hold a tenured track faculty position
*Have no more than 10 years since terminal degree (MD or PhD)
(Exceptions must be approved prior to submission)
*Have not been promoted to associate professor
Researchers who have secured their own R01 funding are not eligible for this award. Applicants with institutional or K08 awards are eligible.

The V Foundation proposal deadline is Fri., Aug. 6, 2010.
For more information, please refer to the V Foundation website: http://www.jimmyv.org/research/the-funding-process.html

Submit a one-page letter describing your research project to Denise Baughman (deniseb@stanford.edu) by Monday, June 7, 2010. The Cancer Center leadership will decide which proposal should go forward and will notify recipients within five days of making the final decision.

Internal Timeline:
June 7, 2010 -- One page summaries due for internal review and selection (email to: deniseb@stanford.edu)
By June 25, 2010 -- Selected applicant will be notified to proceed with the full application/proposal
July 16, 2010 -- Final proposal due to RMG
