Outline: Biomedical Informatics

This scholarly concentration promotes exploration of any aspect of information management and analysis along the biomedical research pipeline, from the analysis and interpretation of new biological datasets to the integration and management of this information in the context of clinical care. How might information technology be used to detect bioterrorist attacks? Is there a more effective way to search the medical literature besides PubMed? When one gene chip experiment can measure the expression levels for an entire genome, how can we manage, interpret the data and integrate the results into individual patient care? The explosion in data from all areas of medicine and biology has led to the need to develop information technologies for biomedicine.

Mission
To use information technology to manage, analyze, and understand biomedical data, and to develop new approaches for using information to improve health
