On tap for today:

1. Homework!
2. A trip to the East Bay
3. The evening back home in the South Bay

Homework

I woke up at 9 am (though it was a struggle to actually force myself outta bed). The plan was to get to work on my second exam question, but of course I needed my sustenance. Since it's the weekend, and I have the time, I usually cook for myself--grits, bacon, eggs, and biscuits. It reminds me of the breakfasts that my mom would make for me and my family on the weekends after church, but since mom is in NC, if I want it I have to make it for myself (unless any of you ladies reading out there would offer to do it for me--wink, wink).

The next 4 hours were spent working on the question, which entails reading a lot of papers to formulate my own thinking, calling the TA to make sure that my understanding of the question is correct, and then attempting to write something that makes some sense.

Of course, this is interrupted frequently by trips to facebook.com (the single biggest waste of time in my life, but I keep going back for more) and msnbc.com. Finally at 2 pm I have something that is reasonable, which means I can get to some fun.

A trip to the East Bay

I have a friend at Berkeley who invited me to a Cinco de Mayo celebration at church (though since it's Sunday, maybe it should be called a Siete de Mayo celebration). I really enjoy hanging out in the east bay (Berkeley, Oakland, etc.). The feel is definitely more like home (back in NC) and the celebration was definitely a good time (homemade tomales, dancing, kids swinging at a pinata)...

Back in the South Bay

Before returning to Stanford, I had a couple of things to do. First, get gas (as my tank is almost on E). Now this is something that I dread as the prices have skyrocketed in the past few weeks. Thankfully, as I had to drive through East Palo Alto (the adjacent town) to get to the East bay and I saw a gas station with gas for $3.19/gallon.

gas prices

"Cheap" Gas...it's amazing how living in Cali has radically altered what I will call cheap.

This may not impress you, but when you consider that gas in Palo Alto/Mountain View ranges from $3.34-$3.47 a gallon, this was something that got me truly excited (so excited in fact, I had to document it in picture)

Cold Stone Creamery

Then, on the way back I decided to stop at Cold Stone. If you don't know what this is, it's simply the MOST DELICIOUS ice cream ever.

While I love Cold Stone, having one that is literally across the street from Stanford has become sort of a challenge (mainly, I have to keep myself from going over there 2-3X per week).

Ice cream

Last time I was there (2 weeks ago), I met John Arilliaga, the man who built a couple of gyms on campus, the Graduate Community Center, and is building the new football stadium. No local celebrities tonight, just quality ice cream...

The beautiful final product: sweet cream ice cream with brownie, snickers, m&m's and chocolate syrup mixed into it. In short, the reason that I'll have to go running the next few days

As it's Sunday, the rest of the night will be spent on my couch watching Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy (my 2nd favorite show on TV, behind PTI on ESPN). I don't know what I'll do with all the free time come 2 weeks when ABC cuts me off from this quality television until September. For now I'll just enjoy and then get ready for the week...
