2. a dance show on campus

Church Double-Header

church

Thankfully I was able to set my alarm properly last night so I wake up at 9 am, as scheduled. Typically I'd wake up at 10 am for a standing 11 am meeting of my church growth group in the Graduate Community Center.

I'm a member of Abundant Life Christian Fellowship, a church in Mountain View (the next town over; www.alcf.net for more info) and growth groups are ways to connect to members of the church on a more personal level and to reflect on how the message preached the previous week is applicable to our lives. My growth group is made of other Stanford PhD students and it's one of the things that I look forward to most during the week.

Anyway, this Saturday there was a celebration for members of various growth groups at church and so we went there instead of having our normal meeting. This was truly a wonderful time of worship and testimonies of the impact of the groups/the church in people's lives.

Also while I was there I met another student who's in the microbiology & immunology department (which is separate from the immunology program to which I belong, confusing I know) who told me about a prayer that they have on the med campus on Thursday afternoons, which is definitely something that I will try to attend in the future.

I love Jesus, and though people generally frown upon "religion," my relationship with God has definitely been what's sustained me in these 10 months of grad school (in addition to the support of my wonderful family/friends and gospel music, especially Karen Clark-Sheard, Dorinda Clark-Cole, and the Clark Sisters, and Yolanda Adams, among others).

After the celebration at church, I did the normal mundane errands that we have to do: grocery shopping and Target run, cleaning up around the apartment, Costco run. Soon it was 5:30 pm and I was back at church. I don't normally do church double-headers on Saturdays (or any other day), but today is the exception. ALCF has 3 services each weekend (one Sat night, Sunday morning 8:30 and 11 am) which means that I am able to find one that fits in my schedule.

As you may have noticed, I haven't said anything about school work for today, which means that I'll have to get up tomorrow morning to finish up the exam, and so I go to church tonight.

Dance Show

After church, I stopped to pick up some food and then headed to the dance department's show "Spring Migration 2006." I came to support one of my friends, an undergrad who is a talented dancer and choreographer. The show was held at Memorial Auditorium, a building I ride by at least 4 times a week, but one that I had never been into until tonight. The show was phenomenal!
