Can you believe it's Friday?

I was gonna call this "Thank Goodness it's Friday", but it's not like my week has been so dreadful I want it to end. I don't think I have in awhile... Fridays have just been an added surprise at Stanford.

So this quarter Fridays begin with the joint Goodman/Maduke/Aldrich lab Journal Club. With the span of the labs and peoples interest, it has been a different type of paper topic each week and yet I am starting to see how they are related.

This week was more oriented towards biochemical structure, which I find to be so interesting. It's funny that I don't see myself right now going down that road and yet I have so much fun seeing how structure and function work together in proteins/enzymes.

By the time we finished up with the journal club, it was almost time for my homework party with Justin and Paul. We met at noon and worked through our five-part problem set. Although we were not sure if we had the right answers, we felt that we could discuss our reasoning.

The party was followed by two more hours of going over the problems with the class. I know what your thinking... I just spent four hours doing homework and to boot we kept our problem sets to add additional thought to our answers. It was so much fun. I am such a dork.

Seriously, though this class has held me so much this week. I think it was the fact that something finally clicked on Monday that helped me tie together a lot of loose ends from during the quarter.

But class was amazing on Friday. Not only were we on the right track on each question (first time since I got here) but because I had spent the time trying to understand the concepts we'd been discussing this week, I didn't have to play connect the dots. Instead I got to spend time asking questions about how this all fit back into the big picture... and better yet what questions could you ask to figure out more of the puzzle.

I have been in super dork mode with this class lately. It's awesome. (okay, completely California girl right there, sorry sometimes it just comes out.) I was feeling so good I ended up in the lab until 8:30 pm on a Friday night and didn't even notice.

I did forget how exhausting a good day was again though. Justin and I got the idea that a city (SF) trip was called for because of our good week. We had planned to meet up with a couple of my friends and a couple of his and by the time we got out there we were so tired, we ended up having a Blockbuster night at a friend's house. Funny that we would drive 35 minutes to watch a movie on a couch but it was fun.
