J. E. Wallace Sterling Muleshoe Lifetime Alumni Achievement Award Dinner
Philip A. Pizzo, MD, Dean of the School of Medicine, and the Stanford
University Medical Center Alumni Association Board of Governors cordially
invite you to attend the presentation of the Sterling Award to two medical
school alumni for their leadership and commitment to improving health. For the history of the Sterling Award and past recipients, click here.

Alumni being honored this year:

Paul M. Ellwood, Jr., MD ‘53
A former professor of pediatrics, neurology and physical medicine and rehabilitation, Dr. Ellwood is an innovator behind many important health services advances, including one of the earliest pediatric neurology programs in the United States, the rehabilitation center movement, health policies leading to funding of health services research, health outcomes research HMOs and the managed care movement.
Robert T. Schimke, MD '58
Professor Emeritus Schimke was Stanford's chairman of the Department of Pharmacology (1969 through 1972) and subsequently chairman of the Department of Biological Sciences (1978 through 1982). His research  involved two ground-breaking findings: first, a role of protein degradation in  enzyme regulation, and second, specific gene amplification and genomic instability in cancer.

The Cutting Edge
Learn from clinicians and scientists as they showcase innovative treatments for patients across a spectrum of medical specialties. Attendees will rotate through a series of short demonstrations and laboratories that blend the domains of basic science and clinical medicine.  The interactive program will allow alumni a hands-on experience in some of the venues. Sessions that focus on topics of interest to PhDs will be included. We encourage children 10 years and older to accompany their parents and take part in this exciting exploration into today’s cutting-edge medical technology.
Time: 8:30 am – 12 pm (See the 9 am, 10 am and 11 am class descriptions)
Location: Various Medical Center buildings

Li Ka Shing Center Tours
This building is soon to become the official front door to the School of Medicine. It will bring together cutting-edge medicine, modern education and advanced technology, by design. Aspiring doctors can practice life-saving skills in the safety of realistic simulations. Researchers will have instant access to the most current data without leaving their labs. Medical experts from around the world can gather to share the latest insights and bring their combined expertise to bear on the great health challenges of our time.Tours will be conducted within the construction site.  Time: 9 am – 12 pm (Each tour will last 30 – 45 minutes)
Location: Tours depart from the Nexus Café, Clark Center,

Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve
Join in a vigorous docent-led hike through this unique natural biological preserve in the nearby foothills. Casual attire, comfortable shoes, a hat, and sunscreen are strongly recommended for this moderately vigorous 90 minute hike. Water will be provided. Appropriate for children age 10 and up.
Time: 1:30 – 3:30 pm
Location: Shuttles depart from the the Nexus Café, Clark Center
Cost: No charge

Dean’s Cocktail Reception
Join Dean Pizzo and SUMCAA board members for a cocktail reception at Fogarty Winery in Woodside. Enjoy award-winning wine as you reconnect with classmates and take in the breathtaking views of the Santa Cruz Mountains.  (Note: The winery can get cold in the evening, so please dress appropriately.) 
Time: 5:30 pm
Location: Shuttles depart from the Stock Farm parking structure on campus to Fogarty Winery. (Please note that parking is NOT available at Fogarty Winery.  Guests must use the complimentary shuttles from campus, which will depart frequently.

Class Reunion Dinners

Medical alumni can join their classmates for a festive class reunion dinner at Fogarty Winery. Photographs of the classes will be taken before the dinner.
Time: 7 pm
