SMAA Newsletter
July 2004
From the Desk of the Associate Dean for Alumni Affairs
Dear Alumni,
The Stanford Medical Alumni Association (SMAA) website is a work in progress and continues to get better and better. It is user friendly and offers a wide variety of helpful items -- use it to register online for alumni events, to contact friends and lost classmates, and to stay up-to-date on the latest news at Stanford University Medical Center.
I use it often and personally find it indispensable. I encourage everyone
to give the Stanford Medical
Alumni Association a closer look. The following section, What's New
at the SMAA,
gives directions on how to log on and use our new searchable database,
Med
Center Network (MCN) which is launched from the main page of the SMAA
website.
I hope you enjoy the experience.
Sincerely,
Ross Bright, MD '58
Associate Dean for Alumni Affairs
What's New at the SMAA
Introducing the Med Center Network (MCN)
Medical Center alumni got the first look at our new online service during the 2004 May reunions. Med Center Network (MCN) is the first phase of password protected online services that will be available to medical alumni. An integral part of the redesigned SMAA website, MCN can be used to search an online directory and create/update a personal alumni profile.
If you already have an on-line account with Stanford University, you are registered to use the MCN directory. Just go to the Stanford Medical Alumni Association and log onto MCN using your Stanford username and password for access.
If you haven't yet set up an online account, go to the SMAA website and "Register" onto MCN. Create a username and password you will remember and then create or update your personal profile. Please note that this personal account (username and password) will be university associated. You will not need to create any other Stanford University online/web accounts.
If you have any questions or need assistance, you can reach the Alumni Relations Office at medalumni_relations@stanford.edu, or at 650-234-0635.
News From the School of Medicine
A Historical Look at Stanford School of Medicine
The School of Medicine has a new look for its website that showcases the four areas that epitomize the mission of the school: Education, Research, Patient Care, and Community.
In 1908, Stanford University adopted the Cooper Medical College in San Francisco as its medical school. The new website highlights the evolution of the school from this time to its move to "The Farm" in 1959, and its premier status as an academic medical center today. Enhancing Diversity in the School of Medicine: A Now and Future Issue
In the May 31st Dean's Newsletter, Dr. Pizzo announced a major initiative
to enhance the school's diversity, in part by recruiting and retaining
more minority faculty and staff.
Dr. Pizzo writes:
"Among the highest priorities I have for the School of Medicine
during the next several years is further enhancing the diversity of our
students, faculty and staff. The May 21st Executive Committee Meeting
was the start of what I hope will be a series of discussions about diversity
and inclusiveness of underrepresented minority students at the School
of Medicine." More
