Beyond the Farm Service Day

LifeMoves - Creating Welcome Baskets for the Homeless

Thank you to all alumni, family and friends that came out for another great community service Beyond the Farm project with us!

Beyond the Farm is an annual event that seeks to extend Stanford's spirit of service to communities around the world through the volunteer efforts of alumni, family and friends. With the dedication of every individual within the Universities 220,000+ strong alumni community, we can make a world of difference!

On Saturday, April 27 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. the Stanford Medicine Alumni Association partnered with LifeMoves, the largest and most effective nonprofit committed to ending the cycle of homelessness in Silicon Valley. Its mission, since 1987, has been to provide interim housing and supportive services for homeless families and individuals to rapidly return to stable housing and achieve long-term self-sufficiency. LifeMoves provides safe and clean living spaces, nutritious food, counseling and mental health supportive services, therapeutic childcare and after-school Our alumni project hosted volunteers who created welcome cards and baskets for families as they move into Haven Family House. Each laundry basket was artfully arranged and wrapped as if it was being auctioned off for $1,000. Welcome baskets included cleaning and household items.

Volunteers also had the opportunity for small-group, guided tours of the 23-unit facility with time for questions and conversation.

Thank you again to all our wonderful alumni, family and friends who made this a great day of service!
