9.1.A. Clinical Scholar Role

A concurrent part time Clinical Scholar appointment for a Fellow or a subspecialty Resident will allow an individual to provide clinical care or clinical teaching, or both, outside the scope of their residency or fellowship training program. The fellowship or subspecialty Residency program cannot be ACGME.

Such review will be conducted on a case-by-case basis by the cognizant dean and approval for such appointment must be in accordance with the applicable University graduate, postdoctoral or graduate medical education policies.  In all cases, it is essential that the candidate's training program not be compromised. There must be a clear and documented distinction between the assignment as a trainee and the assignment as a Clinical Scholar. The Clinical Scholar appointment may not normally exceed 25% FTE, and the combined total percent of appointments may not exceed 100% FTE. This title must be used for any OPA/GME Fellow or Resident that would like a clinical appointment in SoM.

The Clinical Scholar must be a licensed M.D. (or equivalent medical degree), Ph.D. or holds a terminal degree in his/her field.
