Independence and Impact in the University Tenure Line
Team science is often the norm as many substantial biomedical investigations now require a large team of diverse scientists. Review bodies will expect to see a variety of publications in a candidate’s curriculum vitae, including some as collaborator.
For the tenure review, however, it is important for the body of work to primarily reflect the candidate’s own independent original research as evidenced by senior-authored articles.
With respect to collaborative works, candidates are encouraged to annotate the curriculum vitae to explain individual contributions.
Such contributions might include:
conception and design
acquisition of data and analysis and interpretation of data
drafting of the manuscript and critical revision of the manuscript for important intellectual content
statistical analysis, obtaining funding, administrative, technical or material support, and supervision.
