VII. The Search Initiation Process
A. Components of the Search Request
A package of materials must be assembled and submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs for each search request. The components of the package are:
- transmittal memo (including the source of the position, identification of the faculty line and rank, and an explanation regarding the programmatic need)
- draft solicitation letter to institutions
- list of institutions to whom the letter will be sent
- draft advertisement
- list of publications in which the advertisement will appear
- source of salary support form
- "support memo," if applicable
- business plan (for MCL searches)
- source of space
- identification of animal care needs, if applicable
- list of search committee members
A checklist, which confirms the completeness of the package, must accompany the search initiation request. More detailed information on the components of the search initiation request follows.
